From September 17 to November 27, 2024, the world watched as Lebanon was gripped by a devastating conflict. For those of us on the ground, it wasn’t just a headline; it was a total upheaval of life. Roads were packed with families fleeing for their lives, and the sounds of war became a constant, heavy backdrop to our daily existence.
As over 1.5 million people were displaced across the country, a heartbreaking secondary crisis emerged. Many families, in their desperate rush to find safety, were forced to leave behind their beloved pets. Meanwhile, the stray animals who had spent years relying on the kindness of local shopkeepers and residents suddenly found their neighborhoods empty and their food sources gone.
In the face of such overwhelming despair, we knew we couldn’t look away. While humanity was suffering, the “innocent souls” on four legs were starving in silence.
A lifeline of 3,000kg
During these two harrowing months, our mission at Adopt Don’t Shop became more critical than ever. We couldn’t stop the war, but we could stop the hunger.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our donors, we didn’t just survive, we acted. We managed to sustain three major feeding stations across Beirut’s war zone, acting as a consistent sanctuary for cats and dogs who had no one else to turn to.
- The scale: We distributed over 3,000 kg of dry food.
- The reach: This provided a vital lifeline to thousands of strays and abandoned pets throughout the most intense weeks of the conflict.
- The impact: These feeding stations provided a sense of stability and care in a world that felt like it was falling apart.
“Together, we showed that even in the face of war, kindness can prevail. A hungry stomach doesn’t know about politics; it only knows the relief of a full bowl.”
Gratitude amidst the chaos
This effort would have been impossible without you. To every person who donated while their own lives were in flux, and to every volunteer who braved the uncertainty of the streets to refill a bowl, thank you. You proved that compassion is a force that no conflict can truly extinguish.
As Lebanon enters a period of recovery following the November 27 ceasefire, the work doesn’t stop. Many animals are still waiting for their families to return, and many more are now navigating a landscape that has been forever changed.
Help us continue the mission
The war may have paused, but the hunger hasn’t. We are committed to making a difference, one life at a time, but we need your help to keep our feeding stations stocked and our rescue efforts moving.
Let’s keep spreading hope, one paw at a time. ❤️🐾
